My So Called Hydrangea

Before moving into this house the only plant life we had to deal with was a 5′ Corn Plant (Dracaena Fragrans), a couple of succulents, and some orchids rescued from the dumpster of our old loft space.  Now we have to manage a neglected yard, a rhododendron, a hydrangea, and a bunch of trees (laurel, pine, catalpa, japanese maple). After our first year of overwhelming yard work (I know my life is so hard) I realized it isn’t so bad if I take one project at a time. I decided to take on the Hydrangea.  After doing some careful research I was ready to start pruning. Well in my case in was more cutting whatever I could reach. Hope this guy is happy

How I Want to Spend My Summer

I adore all these looks from Zara. Classic pieces with some funk.

Moss

The Catalpas are covered with patches lovely moss and in some places ferns are growing. These are some of the heavy/dead wood portions. I see a new terrarium in the near future. IMG_4146IMG_4150IMG_4144

Yesterday & The Day Before

Yesterday, I arrived downtown 40 minutes before I had to start my day gig (I tend to get paranoid about being tardy).  A nice soy cap and a Voodoo doughnut from Stumptown sounded like a nice way to pass the time. When we lived downtown we used to take coffee and sweet treat “breaks”. We would always leave Stumptown with our clothes smelling like coffee and our minds and bodies feeling a little cray-cray.  It was nice. On my lunch break I ran a few errands and stopped in to Anthropologie to do a little window shopping, perhaps find a cute dress and some house-ware goodness.  As soon as I walked in I fell in LOVE with the Ostrage display. I couldn’t get over how large and cool it looked up close.  Anthropologie has pretty fantastic windows and visual. stumptownmushroomsostrage

The day before yesterday, we had the pine tree worked on. Deadwood, broken branches and annoying limbs where removed. Although, this tree provides us with great shade in the summer and huge pine cones, it dumps pounds and pounds of never ending needles…and is destroying the retaining wall, sidewalk, walkway…just saying  pinetreepincones

Thrift Store Thursday

Yesterday the power went out in parts of downtown Portland, my day gig being one of them. Some of the crew was sent home early and I got to enjoy a chilly afternoon by hitting up some thrift shops in NW and in St. John’s.  I have master plans for these goodies, stay tuned.IMG_4138

Lucky Strike

We started the New Year with a great dinner at Lucky Strike. We left our place a 4:45 so we could make it to the restaurant as soon as the doors opened. After what seemed like the longest drive ever (maybe because I got a bit car sick) we arrived shortly after 5:30, lucky for us because the place was filling up fast. I read the reviews and knew this place served really spicy food, but I had no idea. The table next to us ordered the Hot Pepper Chicken Bath, as soon as it hit their table we began to sniffle, cough, have watery eyes and soon we started laughing hysterically. Were we being maced?
